Agricultural Biotechnology is The Science of Applying Biotechnology to Agriculture.


Farmers, scientists and doctors are delivering new solutions to achieve better health and  well-being.  Farm land and greenhouses are where food is grown and where medicines and ingredients for functional foods are manufactured from plants.
this new landscape is propelled by advances in plant breeding, transgenic crops and marker- assisted selection. on the horizon are solutions to the challenges of feeding, fueling, clothing and healing the world, which will improve economy.

Companies like (Medicago, Nanovector and SoyMeds) use plants as the basis for vaccines and treatments for cancer. at the Bent Creek institute in asheville and the North Carolina research Campus in Kannapolis, scientists are harnessing the bioactive compounds in plants to produce more-healthful foods and natural medicines.

Biotechnology is being used to make a cleaner environment, safer and more nutritious foods, and diagnostics and therapeutics for humans and animals. Supporting all this agricultural research and commercialization.

Grassroots Biotechnology is researching roots to create better crops. agile Sciences, inspired by a sea sponge’s ability to disperse biofilms, is partnering with industry to market improved treatments for plant diseases. Bioresource international uses feed additives made from natural enzymes to save farmers money by reducing feed costs. a test developed by advanced animal  diagnostics for mastitis, an infection in the mammary glands of dairy cows, is the first to be  used in the barn.


The Biofuels Center of North Carolina works with farmers to grow energy grasses for biofuels. global agri-biotech companies in the state like BaSF Plant Science, Bayer CropScience, Monsanto, Pioneer high-Breed and Syngenta produce grains, vegetables and fruits that require fewer herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers,  allowing farmers and the environment to benefit from better crop management practices.

In the 21st century, agri-biotech is shaping a new  economic landscape, solutions to global challenges result as well as a business climate where companies prosper, create jobs and stimulate economic activity.

Mosquito-born zica virus Has Been Confirmed By Brazilian Health Authorities To Cause Fatal Brain-damage.

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - A link between a form of fetal brain damage and the mosquito-born zica virus has been confirmed by Brazilian health authorities on Saturday. The link between zica, first medically identified as a new disease half a century ago, and birth defects has never been made.  The virus, endemic in parts Africa, South America, Southeast Asia and some Pacific Islands, has until now been blamed for symptoms such as fever, mild headache, skin rashes, joint pain and conjunctivitis, or "red eye." Initial analysis shows that the virus can be passed to a fetus and that the fetus is at greatest risk from the virus during the first three months of pregnancy, the statements said.
